Tigres FC President, Edgar Paez, was assassinated post-match; football community mourns while authorities investigate the shocking incident near the stadium.

The president of Colombia second division club Tigres FC, Edgar Paez, was tragically assassinated following his team’s defeat this past Saturday.

In a shocking incident that has sent ripples through the sporting community, Paez was fatally shot while on his way home following a 3-2 loss to Atletico FC.

The 63-year-old Paez was in a car accompanied by his daughter when they were ambushed by two assailants on a motorbike. While the seasoned sportsman could not escape their lethal intent, his daughter fortunately remained unscathed in the harrowing incident.

In an official statement released by Tigres FC, they expressed their profound sorrow, saying, "The Tigres family and the sporting community are devastated by this event. His commitment to the team and his dedication to the development of the sport in our region left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him."

Fernando Jaramillo, the head of DIMAYOR, which oversees the professional football leagues in Colombia, was also amongst the many who paid heartfelt tributes.

"He was always distinguished by his respect for his friends, by his strong but respectful positions and by the love he professed for the sport that we are all passionate about: football,” he wrote.

Such words not only depict the personal nature of the loss but also the void his absence will create in the administrative corridors of Colombian football.

With the details surrounding the murder still murky, the authorities have initiated a thorough investigation.

Sources indicate that they are meticulously sifting through the evidence and clues to bring the perpetrators to justice and to uncover the motive behind this audacious crime.
