The former Kenyan International is full of praise for his young side after beating AFC Leopards 2-1.

Nairobi City Stars head coach Nicholas Muyoti has praised the progression they have made in the second leg following his side’s comeback from a goal down to beat embattled AFC Leopards 2-1 on Monday.

A Kelvin Etemesi brace was enough to give them three precious points, maintaining their seven-game unbeaten run and extending their gap on 16th-place Wazito to 10 points with three matches left to play.

City Stars were going through a tough time for much of the first half of the season, with new signings taking time to get to grips with topflight football, and it had a ripple effect on their rather indifferent results.

However, they have not lost a single league game since going down 4-2 to Kenya Police FC in April.

“I want to thank God and the effort they (players) have put in because they never gave up from the first half after conceding. We had to make some changes in the first half which bore fruit and I am happy with the outcome and the way the players committed themselves,” Muyoti said.

“It is amazing how these boys have grown up to now. I think the work we have been doing is now paying off and you could see in the second leg we did very well.

"The new players who came in mid-season have also made an impact since joining. You can see the progress we are making.”

Etemesi scored a brace in the match in a similar style and in typical center-forward play, netting it his ninth goal of the season in his debut campaign in the top flight, having signed from Division One club Kangemi All Stars before the start of the 2022-2023 campaign.

Muyoti practically ran out of superlatives for the youngster.

“He has been growing well since the first leg and we are happy with his progress. He has integrated well into the side and I hope he continues this way because he is a very young and enterprising player.”

The win meant that City Stars have secured their Premier League status for another season.
