Manchester City forward Phil Foden has opened up on the series of issues that have impacted his campaign negatively.
Manchester City forward Phil Foden has shed light on the challenges that have derailed his current season, citing off-the-field issues and a serious ankle injury as key setbacks.
The England international, who enjoyed a stellar 2023/24 campaign, has struggled to replicate that form this term.
Foden, 24, was widely expected to step into a leadership role for City this season, especially with the likes of midfield maestro Kevin De Bruyne seeing reduced game time and speculation surrounding his future.
Last season, Foden scored 19 Premier League goals, helping City secure a historic fourth consecutive league title.
Foden's standout performances saw him earn numerous accolades, including Player of the Season, the Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year award, and a place in the PFA Team of the Year.

The physical issues have been compounded by emotional stress, with Foden admitting he’s been mentally drained and dealing with personal challenges.
In January, reports indicated that the six-time Premier League winner was feeling both physically and mentally burnt out.
"I've had a lot of things going on off the pitch mentally. Sometimes there's things in life that are bigger than football. This season I've struggled a little bit," he admitted.

Foden Aiming to Bounce Back
)
Despite the struggles, Foden is determined to bounce back.
“Now it’s just about improving and getting back to my best. I know my standards and what I can reach. I'm looking forward to getting back," he said.
Looking ahead, Foden is mindful of the busy summer schedule, with City participating in the expanded Club World Cup in the US beginning June 14.
"It's obviously difficult because the lads are mentally drained from this season. I believe everyone needs the right time to recover," he said.
As England manager Thomas Tuchel prepares to name his squad for June’s World Cup qualifier against Andorra and a friendly with Senegal, Foden remains unsure if he will feature.
“It’s something we have to speak with the club and national team about. Maybe it's better to rest and get my ankle fully 100% back how I want it. I just don’t know at the moment,” he concluded.
