Migori have two games in hand over playoff chasing rivals Mara Sugar

Migori Youth have an opportunity to close in on third place and secure the promotion playoff place when they host Gusii United in the National Super League on Saturday.

The team were handed an advantage when third-placed Mara Sugar failed to win on Friday, leaving them on 54 points, four ahead of Migori, but having played two games more.

Migori, therefore, can move to third if they win their two games in hand, starting with Saturday’s clash at home to Gusii.

The side were edged 1-0 by leaders Shabana last week and are desperate to return to winning ways with four matches to go.

Their recent form has not been impressive, winning just one of their last four matches, and they will need to return to their run of April and May when they put together five straight wins to secure third place and an opportunity to play Wazito FC for a chance to feature in the Premier League next season.

Gusii’s recent form should give Migori plenty of encouragement as they have managed just two wins from their last eight games, losing five over that period, and come into the match on the back of a three-game winless run.

However, given the rivalry between the two neighbouring teams, it will not be easy for either side.

The match will be preceded by a clash between Silibwet and Naivas FC. The former are 17th on the log and even though they will not be relegated, they will be looking to move higher up the table.

However, sixth-placed Naivas can add onto their woes considering Siliwet have not won any of their last nine games and have only scored four goals over that period while conceding 21.

Meanwhile, SS Assad, who are 14th on the table, will host 12th-placed Mwatate United in Saturday’s other match.
