The Harambee Stars captain maintained his brilliant start to the season by grabbing a brace in Friday’s 4-1 thrashing of Muaither

Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga scored a brace as he led Al Duhail to a 4-1 victory over Muaither in the Qatar Stars League on Friday.

Olunga maintained his brilliant start to the season as he opened the scoring in the ninth minute before the visitors leveled in the 37th minute for a 1-1 draw at halftime.

French midfielder Ibrahima Diallo then extended Al Duhail’s lead in the 67th minute before Olunga grabbed his brace nine minutes later to put the result beyond doubt.

With 10 minutes added on, Isaac Lihadji made it 4-1 for Hernan Crespo’s men who have now won their opening two games of the season.

It is just the start that Crespo would have wished for as his side seek to defend their Qatar Stars League title and Olunga looks far from stopping his scoring prowess.

It is now three goals in two league games for the lanky Kenyan forward who was also on target when Al Duhail beat Al Ahli 2-1 on matchday one last Friday.

Crespo will be depending on him again this season as his side bid to retain their league title and push further in the Asian Champions League, where they have Cristiano Ronaldo and Sadio Mane’s Al-Nassr for company in their group, after reaching the semi-final in 2022-23.

Olunga had an impressive 2022-23 season, winning back-to-back Golden Boot awards, after bagging 22 goals while claiming his first Qatar Stars League title.

The striker was also the top scorer in the Ooredoo Cup with 10 goals, when Al-Duhail lifted the trophy, as well as the Qatar Cup, ending the season with 40 goals from 38 games in all competitions
