Greenwood ends dry spell with vital goal contribution as Getafe hold Athletic

Mason Greenwood played his first 90 minutes of the season to help Getafe get a valuable away point in Athletic Bilbao.

Manchester United loanee, Mason Greenwood, has recorded his first goal contribution for Getafe in the Spanish LALIGA.

Greenwood put in a shift and registered a crucial assist as Getafe held Athletic Bilbao to a 2-2 draw on Wednesday.

The match was eagerly anticipated by fans and Greenwood followers, and it did not disappoint following a four-goal thriller with both teams receiving a red card apiece. 

Greenwood’s form for Getafe 

The 21-year-old was handed his first start of the season and he rewarded his manager’s fate with a decisive assist. 

He started and finished the game and created the most chances (2) in the game, one of which led to their first goal of the day. 

Greenwood also attempted one shot during the game that saw him show his creative side as he continued to build on his return to football.

Meanwhile, in terms of the game between Getafe and Athletic, from the opening whistle, the home side took the initiative when Yuri Berchiche gave them an early lead before they were reduced to ten men following the sending off of Oihan Sancet for dangerous play. 

Getafe took advantage to find the equaliser, with Gaston Alvarez heading home a corner from Greenwood.

Inaki Williams restored Bilbao’s lead after the hour mark but Getafe’s Juanmi Latasa ensured a share of the spoils when he headed a late equaliser.

There was time for one last as Pepe Bordalas received his matching orders in added time.
