Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards who had bought Mashemeji Derby tickets early are left with tough choices after the match was moved from Nairobi to Homa Bay.
They say the early bird catches the worm but for some Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards fans, getting ahead of the queue could prove very costly as far as the Mashemeji Derby is concerned.
This is because Mashemeji Derby tickets had gone on sale ahead with the match anticipated to be played on May 8 at Kasarani Stadium but Confederation of African Football put a spanner in the works when it warned against any activity at the facility, as it continues being upgraded for the delayed 2024 African Nations Championships.
With no suitable alternative, the match was called postponed, but it has since been rescheduled for June 2 and not Nairobi but at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay.

That means the fans who had already purchased their tickets have to plan a trip to Homa Bay which will lead to unplanned additional costs.

Mashemeji Derby to Be Played Out of Nairobi as Gor Mahia Confirm Date and Venue
Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards fans have to brace themselves for a first Mashemeji Derby outside Nairobi after K’Ogalo revealed the date and venue for the high stakes clash.
However, according to Gor Mahia treasurer Gerphas Okuku, those who do not wish to travel will not lose out on their money as there are plans to refund them.
How Will Early Ticket Buyers Be Settled?

“To those who had paid and are not travelling, the ticket providers will send a bulk message to them because they have their contacts through how they paid,” Okuku told Pulse Sports on Saturday.
“They will communicate to them and refund those who will not be travelling via the same contact and then they will delete them from the system. That is the good thing via online ticketing.
“There will be a communication from our side to everybody but we are still waiting this confirmation that indeed this game is in Homa Bay because it has been back and forth,” Okuku further said.

Gor Mahia: What Next For K'Ogalo After Sacking Coach Amid Crumbling Campaign?
Gor Mahia face a crucial period in their campaign after parting ways with coach Sinisa Mihic with season-defining clashes ahead.
Okuku also confirmed that the same online platform Tikiti.co.ke will still be used to sell tickets now that the match will be played in Homa Bay although it is not certain if the price will remain the same having initially set Ksh300 for terraces and Ksh5,000 for VIP when they first went on sale early this month.
Gor Mahia have faced challenges securing a suitable venue for the high stakes match but have now settled on Homa Bay which has deep connections to the club as it where K’Ogalo was birthed.
The FKF Premier League champions are in a tight battle for the title and need to win all their remaining three games and hope for some favours elsewhere as Kenya Police could clinch it with a match to space if they beat Shabana on June 14.
