K'Ogalo are expected to have a busy transfer window after securing a CAF Champions League ticket.

Gor Mahia have released the Ugandan duo of Peter Lwasa and Shafiq Kagimu following the expiry of their contracts with K’Ogalo.

Lwasa has left Gor Mahia following the expiration of his two-year contract with the newly-crowned league champions.

The 24-year-old forward joined K’Ogalo from Kariobangi Sharks in 2021 having previously played for Sofapaka before moving to Sharks.

Lwasa leaves the club on a high, having scored a sumptuous goal against Nairobi City Stars on the last day of the 2022-2023 season when he nonchalantly cut inside from the right flank before releasing a ferocious shot past the left corner of Steve Njunge’s net.

Midfielder Kagimu has left the club after signing a short-term deal in March 2023, where his passing capabilities played a key part in helping to set the tempo of K’Ogalo’s games and securing their 20th league title.

In February, head coach Johnathan McKinstry expressed the need for Gor Mahia to nail the recruitment and get it right, and it remains to be seen what the club will do after releasing key players.

“The club has got it wrong with the transfer strategy over the last two years. One of the things we said is that any players coming in now have to be players who will slot straight on into the system. Mid-season transfers are hard because there’s really no time to train them. We needed to get players who know tactically what we want and also the character that we need.”

“Gor Mahia should not sign small players. As long as I am here, the type of players we sign are either top top quality players or the next generation of top talent.”
