The 20-time league champions will play a charity match at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay.

Newly-crowned league champions Gor Mahia will be in Homa Bay this weekend to take part in a charity match against Homa Bay combined at the new Raila Odinga Stadium this Saturday to commemorate its official opening.

The stadium, which is worth Ksh369 million was completed as part of Homa Bay County’s plan to put up high-quality sporting arenas in order to host major sporting events.

The county built the 10,000-capacity stadium between 2013 and 2023 but faced a raft of legal and financial challenges.

Its launch will coincide with the third Luo Nation Cultural Extravaganza that will be held between Friday, June 30, and Saturday, July 1.

"It is an event that is aimed at bringing together the Luo Community through a convergence of various stakeholders within the community, to reignite in members of the community, a spirit of resourcefulness, productivity, and togetherness, in the wake of the challenging socio-economic and political circumstances bedeviling the Nation and world at the moment.

"The extravaganza, as will be communicated to you regularly moving forward, will involve prayers, a cultural exhibition of traditional artifacts, foods and medicine, sports, and tourism among others," read a statement from Homa Bay County.

Raila is expected to preside over a two-day event. The fully packed itinerary will also see him preside over the official opening of the new county government headquarters and the newly constructed recreational park within the town.
