Gor Mahia midfielder Austin Odhiambo has responded to coach Sinisa Mihic, who has threatened to drop him from the squad, over claims of sabotage.

Gor Mahia midfielder Austin Odhiambo has distanced himself from claims of sabotage made by head coach Sinisa Mihic.

Mihic, who has accused some members of his technical bench, which includes his assistants Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno and Michael Nam as well as team manager Victor Nyaoro, of sabotage had alleged that Odhiambo is being used to undermine him.

According to Daily Nation, Odhiambo reportedly walked out on the coach on Monday after failing to agree with some of his instructions in training and that it took the club’s management for the playmaker to apologise to the tactician.

“He is a good player who has to be disciplined and follow my instructions,” Mihic is quoted by Daily Nation saying of the FKF Premier League Player of the Year.

“He [Odhiambo] should even have been substituted in the game against Sofapaka. He had the ball, slowed the game down knowingly, and even when [Benson] Omalla and Bryson [Wangai] were in good position to score, he couldn’t give them the ball,” added the Croat, who had stormed out of Dandora Stadium as Gor Mahia faced Sofapaka last weekend, after his instructions where allegedly not followed, as he served a touchline ban.

“I’m the coach, and he feels he is at a level where he can’t follow my instructions, then he wouldn’t be part of my team,” said Mihic.

However, Odhiambo has refuted claims of sabotaging the Croatian coach, insisting whatever happened was just a minor disagreement between player and coach.

"I don't have any issues with the coach whatsoever. He's the head of the team, and I respect him. I'm a player and he's the coach — he's responsible for the team, it's that clear,” Odhiambo told Mozzart Sport.

"The situation being blown out of proportion was simply an argument we had during training while reviewing my performance in the Sofapaka game.

“These things happen in every team — the coach shares his perspective, and as a player, I respond. It ended there on the training ground. My focus is now on Thursday's match, which we are determined to win."

The tension within Gor Mahia is threatening to derail their charge towards a third straight league title with their 1-1 draw with Sofapaka last weekend seeing them fail to capitalise on Kenya Police’s loss on Friday.

K’Ogalo, who are third on the FKF Premier League table with 47 points, four behind leaders Tusker FC, have a game in hand over their title rivals and they will play it against FC Talanta on Thursday.
