Cristiano Ronaldo has been banned and fined by SAFF for provoking fans after Al-Nassr's win.

Al-Nassr forward Cristiano Ronaldo has been banned for one match for inciting fans during the recent Saudi Pro League victory over Al-Shabab.

The incident occurred after Al-Shabab supporters taunted Ronaldo by chanting "Messi," referencing his renowned rival, Lionel Messi, following Al-Nassr's narrow 3-2 win in Riyadh.

In response, the Portugal captain made a provocative gesture by cupping his hand to his ear towards the fans, an action that has now drawn punitive measures from the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF).

The disciplinary and ethics committee of the SAFF has also imposed a fine of 30,000 Saudi Riyals (approximately Ksh 1,176,558.52) on Ronaldo.

The decision, which the committee stated is final and cannot be appealed against, underscores the federation's commitment to maintaining discipline and respect within the league.

This is not the first time Ronaldo has been in the spotlight for controversial actions; in April 2023, he was seen making a similar gesture towards Al Hilal fans who chanted "Messi" during a match, a moment Ronaldo's team later attributed to a groin injury sustained during the game.

Despite the controversy, Ronaldo's on-field performance for Al-Nassr has been nothing short of phenomenal.

Since joining the club on a free transfer from Manchester United in December 2022, under what is reported to be the biggest football salary in history, he has been a key player.

Ronaldo has scored an impressive 20 goals in 22 league games this season, playing a pivotal role in Al-Nassr's campaign as they chase the league title, currently sitting second in the table behind Al-Hilal.
