Marcus Rashford: Why Unwanted Manchester United Forward Could Miss Out on Dream Barcelona Move

Manchester United outcast Marcus Rashford is wanted by Spanish giants Barcelona but there is one potential stumbling block to the deal.

After an exceptional end to the season with Aston Villa, Marcus Rashford is set to be one of the most sought-after players in this summer's transfer window.

The Englishman returns to Manchester United following his loan spell at Villa Park, but the Red Devils are reportedly unwilling to keep him.

Ruben Amorim is apparently no longer counting on Rashford for next season. A lack of discipline and inconsistent form have reportedly led United to put him on the transfer list this summer.

Rashford is pushing for a transfer to Barcelona, having reportedly even offered his services to the Catalan club. According to sport.es, Barcelona are considering the move, but negotiations are currently on hold.

According to trabsfer news guru Fabrizio Romano, United are hoping to receive around €48 million for Rashford. A potential stumbling block for a move to Barcelona, however, is the forward's high salary, reportedly $15 million per season, as Rashford is one of United's highest earners.

The Red Devils reportedly want to sell Rashford to terminate his contract and avoid paying out the remainder of his hefty £290,000-per-week deal, which runs until 2028. Both parties are looking for a permanent solution in the coming months.

Aston Villa have also expressed interest in signing Rashford permanently after his impressive performances for the Villans, but the United academy graduate reportedly has his sights set on Barcelona.

Rashford, whose market value is €50 million as per Transfermarkt, made 14 apperances for Unai Emery's side during his loan stint, scoring two goals and providing four assists.

Meanwhile, according to sources, the Catalans are considering Liverpool's Luis Diaz and AC Milan's Rafael Leao if the deal for Rashford does not materialize.

In Diaz's case, the Colombian's price tag is very high, and Liverpool are reportedly unwilling to negotiate a transfer fee. The Anfield club has offered the Colombian a contract extension. If Florian Wirtz joins Anfield, as expected, however, Diaz could potentially move to Barcelona.

Barcelona's other option, Leao, has a very high release clause of €175 million.
