Harambee Stars defender David ‘Cheche’ Ochieng’ has revealed the one Junior Stars player he hopes will be promoted to the senior setup after impressing at the recently concluded CECAFA U18 Boys Championships.
Junior Stars lost at the final hurdle to Uganda despite obliterating every team on their way to the final but had to endure extra-time heartbreak. However, there was plenty to be optimistic about their future following impressive displays.
Cheche has revealed that the side’s Spain-based captain Amos Wanjala is a “good player” and hopes he can be promoted to the senior side soon.

“The finals were amazing and overall, I believe that the setup and everything, including the security, was good and the fans also turned up because once you bring such tournaments to Kenya, the fans help rally behind the teams.

Cheche has challenged all the up-and-coming young players, including the Junior Stars, to keep their heads down and trust in the process however slow it may seem as it will help them foster good results down the line.
“I would advise the players to keep their heads down. Football’s future is bright in the eyes of the fans, but to a player, things could go haywire, so they must focus.
“They must not be pressurized and should believe in the process and they will rise slowly. Sometimes, fans push us to the wall as players and you find yourself forgetting who you are.
