Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United: 3 Factors Still Holding Up the Transfer Amid Third Bid

Stephen Awino 13:30 - 18.07.2025

Manchester United’s third bid for Bryan Mbeumo remains unresolved due despite the player’s preference for Old Trafford.

Manchester United’s pursuit of Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo has reached a critical point following a third bid that could rise to £70 million.

The offer, believed to be structured at £65 million upfront with an additional £5 million in performance-based add-ons, has yet to receive a formal response from Brentford, despite United’s growing urgency to secure the transfer before their pre-season tour of the United States.

Mbeumo, who netted 20 Premier League goals last season, remains a top priority for manager Ruben Amorim, who is determined to work with the 25-year-old Cameroon international during the upcoming 13-day US tour.

But despite United’s determination, the deal faces three significant roadblocks.

3. Brentford's Silence and Strategic Delay

Brentford have so far remained silent on the latest proposal, a calculated stance that may be linked to interest in their other attacking asset, Yoane Wissa, who is attracting offers from Newcastle.

The west London club are under no immediate pressure to sell, particularly with Mbeumo under contract and playing a pivotal role in their recent campaigns.

With the added attention now also focused on Wissa, Brentford may be evaluating their options carefully before greenlighting a move that could drastically weaken their frontline.

2. Market Competition and United’s Tactical Deadline

Although other clubs including Tottenham, now under former Brentford boss Thomas Frank, have shown interest in Mbeumo, the player has made it clear that Old Trafford is his preferred destination.

However, with United’s departure for their US tour looming on Tuesday, time is becoming a factor.

Amorim is keen to integrate Mbeumo into his system early, especially as the team works through tactical adjustments that include Matheus Cunha, another summer acquisition, filling one of the inside forward roles in the manager’s preferred formation.

Adding to the pressure is Amorim’s dissatisfaction with last season’s goal output.

United’s tally of just 44 Premier League goals marked one of their worst offensive record in over in their history.

The lack of clinical finishing has driven the urgency to finalize Mbeumo’s arrival, especially with their Premier League opener against Arsenal at Old Trafford fast approaching on August 17.

Bringing in Mbeumo would also deepen the internal shift at United.

Amorim’s tactical setup will likely push captain Bruno Fernandes into a deeper midfield role to accommodate Cunha and potentially Mbeumo behind the main striker.

The shift further diminishes the prospects of reintegration for exiled forwards Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, and Antony, none of whom are currently in Amorim’s plans.

Despite recent links to Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson and Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez, the club hierarchy has consistently prioritized Mbeumo as the forward signing that best suits their evolving system.

If United fail to close the deal in time for the US trip, it may delay Mbeumo’s integration and leave Amorim frustrated ahead of a crucial season.
