The Sugar Millers and Gogo finished first leg of the NSL on second and seventh place respectively.
National Super League (NSL) action continued on Sunday afternoon with five matches taking place.
Mara Sugar welcomed Mwatate United at the Awendo Green Stadium in an encounter which produced four goals.
Having been held to a 1-1 draw by relegation threatened Vihiga United in their previous game, Mara Sugar were desperate to return to winning ways and in doing so close the gap to league leaders Shabana. That is exactly what they did against the coastal-Kenya based side.
Mara started very brightly and they went ahead in the fifth minute courtesy of David Owino’s strike but the lead was canceled ten minutes later by Mwatate’s midfielder Yunus Kasozi.
The home side did not let up and they claimed the lead a minute into the second half courtesy of Brian Ochieng after being teed up by Samuel Adoro.
The result was put beyond doubt in the 89th minute when a quick counter attack from Mara Sugar saw Dennis Maruti break down the left and supply a low cross for second-half substitute Philemon Nyakwaka to tap in from 10-yards out.
Mwatate tried to find some consolation in the injury time, but Mara Sugar held on for a comfortable win.

At Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos, Fred Onyango scored the only goal of the game to see Migori Youth beat MCF 1-0.
The win sees Migori pick up a much needed three points as they moved up to 24 points on the league table while MCF remained 12th with 16 matches played so far this season.
It was a slow start to the match with neither side taking the ascendancy early on as both teams wasted possession with poor passing and bad decision making in the final third.
Migori Youth scored the all important in the 35th minute and in a spectacular fashion, as Onyango drilled home a sublime effort into the far corner from outside the box.

FOOTBALL NSL: Kisumu All Stars outsmart high-flying Shabana
The NSL leaders’ efforts to open the gap wide suffered a setback with the Kisumu loss.
Erick Michubu had a chance to score an equalizer five minutes before the end of the match but the striker’s lob just flew wide of the post.
Migori Youth managed to hold on to claim all three points and heap more pressure on MCF who have only won four matches this season.

In Nairobi, Darajani Gogo defeated Silibwet 2-0 in an entertaining match played at Ligi Ndogo Grounds.
As a result, Gogo climbed up to seventh place on the league log while Silibwet remained 17th place on the table.
Rashid Moyo scored the opener in the 10th minute of the match before adding his second for the hosts in the 56th minute of the match.
Elsewhere, Kajiado FC beat visiting Kibera Black Stars 1-0 in a match played at Ildamat Stadium in Kajiado, while Gusii United’s miserable run of form continued when they were beaten 3-0 by Muranga Seal at St Sebastian Park Stadium.
