Omanyala made the tough decision to drop his former coach Duncan Ayiemba for celebrated fitness coach Geoffrey Kimani, who has been putting him through his paces ahead of a grueling season.

Ferdinand Omanyala has revealed he has never felt fitter ahead of the new season where he ultimately aims to win a maiden Olympic medal in Paris, France this August.

Omanyala made the tough decision to drop his former coach Duncan Ayiemba for celebrated fitness coach Geoffrey Kimani, who has been putting him through his paces ahead of a grueling season.

Now, the reigning African 100m record holder has revealed he feels fitter than ever before working under Kimani full-time.

“We are in the sixth week of training but I am feeling like I am in my eighth month (of training) so that means things are working right,”  Omanyala said in an interview with NTV.

The University of Nairobi alumnus has revealed working with Kimani six weeks before the delayed Olympic games in Paris enabled him to clock faster speeds as it was under him that he was able to run sub-10 seconds.

“I worked with him before at the Olympic games and we achieved a lot after that because if you remember, after the Olympic games I did a 9.86, 9.96, and 9.77.

“That means whatever we did in that training camp was very good. I have been trying to get into the team but it has been a bit of a pushing back.”

Omanyala has revealed Kimani has got “a lot of information” that will go a long way in helping him peak like never before.

“He is a lecturer of sprints and he has got so much information.”
