World 800m champion Mary Moraa has complained about the dilapidated state of a public road outside her home.

Reigning World 800m champion Mary Moraa is up in arms about the dilapidated state of a public road outside her home in Nairobi

Moraa was part of the official launch of the 2024 Kip Keino Classic at Nyayo Stadium which she will be competing in as she prepares for the Paris Olympic games in August, where she will be hoping to clinch gold.

However, her return home in the outskirts of Nairobi was marred by the poor road conditions caused by heavy rains currently pounding various parts of Kenya.

In a Facebook video posted on Sauti TV that has since gone viral, Moraa can be seen navigating her way through muddy puddles in gumboots while voicing her concerns in her native Kisii language.

My people, what life is this? That this is actually where the world champion lives?” Moraa rhetorically asked in the video, clearly disappointed with the state of the road. “Life is too hard!”

The video has sparked a debate on social media, with many echoing Moraa’s sentiments and calling for urgent action to improve the road infrastructure across the country to avoid such situations during adverse weather conditions.

As a world champion and a proud representative of her community, Moraa's plea underscores the importance of investing in public infrastructure to support the aspirations of its citizens, including its sporting heroes.

Local authorities have yet to respond to Moraa’s concerns, but her advocacy has drawn attention to the urgent need for infrastructural development in the regions.

While some naturally voiced their support for her complains, others suggested that she should be using her status as champion to lead by example by taking responsibility herself to help repair the road.

“Instead of complaining, Moraa can use her millions to tarmac the road as part of giving back to the community. Unfortunately, she knows nothing about corporate social responsibility (CSR),” a fan responded on the video.
