Gianmarco Tamberi aims to reclaim his Diamond League title after losing it to South Korean rival Woo Sanghyeok last season.

Olympic high jump champion and two-time Diamond Trophy winner Gianmarco Tamberi is set to make a highly anticipated return to the Herculis EBS Monaco meeting this July.

Monaco holds a special place in Tamberi's journey, marking both his first Diamond League victory in 2016 and a painful moment of setback due to a severe injury that dashed his Olympic dreams for Rio de Janeiro that year.

Despite the adversity, Tamberi's resilience and flamboyant spirit fueled his comeback, culminating in a remarkable joint Olympic gold medal win with his friend and competitor Mutaz Essa Barshim at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

"Tamberi has returned to the Monaco Diamond League several times since 2016, but has yet to claim another victory in the Stade Louis II. He will be out to set the record straight on July 12th, in a meeting which comes just weeks before his Olympic title defence in Paris," the Diamond League announced.

Since his Olympic triumph, Tamberi has continued to shine in the men's high jump arena, securing the Wanda Diamond League titles in 2021 and 2022, and clinching the world title in Budapest last August.

However, the Stade Louis II in Monaco has remained an elusive venue for him to repeat his winning performance since his initial victory in 2016.

The Italian high jumper's quest for victory in Monaco is also fueled by the need to regain his standing in the Diamond League, having lost the title last season to his South Korean rival Woo Sanghyeok.
