Four American sprinters are set to challenge Ferdinand Omanyala as he hunts for his first sub-10 of the season at the Rome Diamond League.

Africa’s fastest man, Ferdinand Omanyala, will be seeking a strong comeback at the Diamond League Meeting in Rome, Italy, on Friday, June 6.

Ferdinand Omanyala is fresh from finishing third at the Kip Keino Classic, clocking 10.07 seconds. Australia’s Kennedy Lachlan surprised the fans with a personal best time of 9.98 to take the win as South Africa's rising star, Bayanda Walaza, finished second in 10.03.

Now, as Ferdinand Omanyala continues chasing his first sub-10 performance of the season at the Diamond League Meeting in Rome, he has his work cut out.

Ferdinand Omanyala snubbed the indoor season and competed in his first 100m race of the season at the Thika Stadium.

He then competed in two races in South Africa before heading to Uganda’s first national trials, winning the 100m before finishing second behind Akani Simbine at the Botswana Golden Grand Prix.

The reigning Commonwealth Games champion then finished second at the Diamond League Meeting in Xiamen, before fading to ninth in Keqiao.

He then made history with Team Kenya at the World Athletics Relays and later set an African record at the Atlanta City Games.

Ferdinand Omanyala then went ahead to settle for second at the Diamond League Meeting in Rabat before competing at the Kip Keino Classic.

Fred Kerley started his 2025 season with a win in the 100m at the Trojan Invite before claiming top honours at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays presented by Truist.

The Olympic bronze medallist then went ahead to compete at the Grand Slam Track Kingston before heading to the Mt. SAC Relays.

Fred Kerley then proceeded to the Tom Jones Memorial, then headed to the Franson Last Chance before doubling in the 100m and 200m at the Diamond League Meeting in Rabat.

He won the 100m at the Canarias Athletics Invitational and will now be out to make an impact at the Diamond League Meeting in Rome.

2) Trayvon Bromell

Trayvon Bromell, coming back from an injury, has struggled to make a mark but is slowly bouncing back to reclaim his spot in the world of sprinting.

He started his season indoors, winning the 100m at the Texas Tech Corky Classic before finishing fifth at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix.

Trayvon Bromell then finished second in the 60m at the Millrose Games and then kick-started his outdoor season in the 200m at the Michael Johnson Invitational.

He then finished third in the 200m at the Texas Invitational and then dipped under 10 seconds at the PURE Athletics Global Invitational.

The American sprinter started his season at the Grand Slam Track Kingston, but failed to live up to the billing with a sixth-place finish in the 200m and fifth in the 100m.

Courtney Lindsey then proceeded to the Tom Jones Memorial, where he won the 100m and later to the World Athletics Relays, where Team USA finished second in the men’s 4x100m relay final.

He finished second behind Letsile Tebogo in the 200m at the Diamond League Meeting in Doha and went ahead to win the distance at the Diamond League Meeting in Rabat. He hopes to maintain the hot streak heading to the Diamond League Meeting in Rome.

4) Brandon Hicklin

Brandon Hicklin is working around the clock to make a name for himself in American sprinting and heading to the Diamond League Meeting in Rome, his second of the season, he wants to claim a podium finish.

Hicklin started his season with a series of races on home soil, which saw him claim a win in the men’s 100m at the PURE Athletics Spring Invitational and debut at the Grand Slam Track meet in Miami.

He competed at the World Athletics Relays and also finished fifth in the men’s 100m at the Diamond League Meeting in Rabat.

The American sprint king would then head to the Canarias Athletics Invitational, where he finished second in the 200m before finishing second in the 100m at the 61° Palio Città della Quercia.

He has all it takes to upset the strong field in the men’s 100m at the Diamond League Meeting in Rome to claim his first major win of the season.
