The reigning Commonwealth Games champion expressed disappointment following his second consecutive Kip Keino Classic defeat, but expressed confidence in what is to come next.

During the 2024 edition of the Kip Keino Classic at the Nyayo National Stadium, Ferdinand Omanyala was forced to finish fifth as Kenny Bednarek claimed top honours in the race.

Despite the loss, Ferdinand Omanyala remains confident about what is to come and noted that they are just putting things together since it is a long season.

The World Championships in Tokyo, Japan, will be held in September, and Ferdinand Omanyala is confident that there is enough time for him to turn things around. He also extended a hand of gratitude to the fans who showed up in large numbers to cheer him.

“Not a good race as we wanted, but of course, we are correcting mistakes as we move on. Of course, we expected faster, but it’s already gone. Now we are going into the next phase, looking to execute things that we have not done,” Ferdinand Omanyala revealed.

“I want to appreciate the fans for coming out and cheering me on. The atmosphere was electrifying. We have been working on the transition part for the last couple of days, and we are looking to put things together.”

Ferdinand Omanyala has already started preparations for the long season, skipping the indoor tour and opting to start his season outdoors.

He competed in two races in South Africa before heading to Uganda for the first national trials, which he won. Ferdinand Omanyala finished second behind Akani Simbine at the Diamond League Meeting in Xiamen before finishing ninth in Keqiao.

Ferdinand Omanyala then competed at the World Athletics Relays, where Kenya qualified for the World Championships in the men’s 4x100m relay.

He broke the African record at the Atlanta City Games and proceeded to finish second at the Diamond League Meeting in Rabat before competing at the Kip Keino Classic.
