Kenya men’s volleyball team have an opportunity to win gold at the African Games after storming the final while Malkia Strikers will not defend their title after semi-final loss.

Kenya men’s volleyball team Wafame Stars are on course to winning gold at the African Games after storming the final courtesy of a 3-0 win over Cameroon on Friday.

Walfame were in a class of their own as they won 25-23, 25-23, 25-17 to storm the final and maintain their unbeaten run and will now take on the winner between Egypt and hosts Ghana for a chance to claim gold.

It has been a dominant display for the Kenyan men at the games in Accra, starting their campaign with a 3-0 over Chad before handing Ghana a similar defeat at the preliminary round.

They would beat the Gambia 3-0 in the third preliminary match before a similar victory against Burkina Faso in the quarter-final.

While the Kenyan men can look forward to winning gold, their female counterparts Malkia Strikers have been dethroned from their throne.

Malkia Strikers will not be making it three straight gold medals at the African Games after going down 3-2 to Egypt in an epic semi-final also on Friday.

The African champions took the first two sets 25-23 and 25-19 but Egypt staged a fightback to win the subsequent three 17-25, 24-26 and 13-15.

It was the first loss for the Kenyan women at the games after winning 3-0 against Seychelles, Nigeria, DR Congo and Algeria at the preliminary round before beating the Gambia 3-0 in the quarter-final.

It is not the preparations Malkia Strikers were wishing for and defeat is a wake-up call ahead of the Paris Olympics where they are seeking an improved performance.
