Kenya men's national volleyball team faces Libya after a 3-1 loss to Cameroon in a crucial match to redeem their performance.

Kenya's national men's volleyball team, Wafalme, is gearing up for a pivotal showdown on Tuesday as they face off against Libya in the 2023 African Nations Championships Group C match, which is scheduled to start at 1800 hours East African time.

After a tense 3-1 defeat in their opening match against Cameroon on Monday, this upcoming clash is a must-win for Kenya.

In a roller coaster of a match against Cameroon, Wafalme fought valiantly but ultimately fell short, with sets ending 22-25, 20-25, 26-24, 17-25.

The standout performer for Cameroon was the opposite attacker, Yvan Kody, who tallied an impressive 22 points. Abiud Chirchir was the top scorer for Kenya, contributing 13 points.

In a post-match statement, Wafalame expressed gratitude for the unwavering support they received saying they remain resolute and committed to their fans.

"In the heart of the electrifying battle between Kenya and Cameroon, there was a notable presence of passionate Kenyan fans whose cheers echoed through every spike, block, dig, set, and serve,” it reads.

The statement continued, "Your unwavering support pushed our team to their limits from the very first point to the last, even as we faced a formidable opponent in Cameroon. Your presence at The gym and your engagement on our page, with your comments and critiques, mean the world to us."

"Though we may have fallen short this time with a 1-3 loss to Cameroon, our spirits remain undaunted. Our journey continues, and we are determined to put smiles on the faces of young fans like the one proudly holding the Kenyan flag," it concluded.

The Wafalme volleyball team is seeking to replicate their remarkable performance during the 2021 tournament in Rwanda, where they stunned the volleyball powerhouse, Egypt, in a memorable victory.

Despite finishing ninth overall, the victory against Egypt was a testament to Kenya's potential on the global stage.

Currently ranked 69th in the global FIVB ranking and fifth in Africa, the primary objective for the team is to solidify their position as one of the continent's top volleyball teams.
