Ochieng linked up with the club following two years at Sofapaka where he impressed and he will now begin a new challenge at the Cairo-based giants.

Zamalek unveiled Ochieng with an impressive video on their social media accounts which was captioned: “From the jungles of Nairobi to Mit Okba, welcome our new Kenyan arrival Baron Ochieng.”

In the video, a leopard emerges from the jungle and it is seen spotting a gazelle that senses danger and takes off, after which the feline follows it but the ‘meal of the day’ disappears from its sight, and it is Ochieng who emerges instead, holding a spear.

He throws the spear away before lifting a Zamalek shirt as the leopard roars at him before it lies low. The defender then holds it as he casually walks out of the jungle.

Zamalek Hoping Ochieng Can Help Them Bounce Back

Zamalek will hope that Ochieng puts in brave performances following his signing with Egyptian outlet Ahram Online reporting that the 19-year-old has signed a four-year contract that will keep him at the club up to 2029.

Ochieng is the 11th player signed by Zamalek, Egypt’s second most successful club, and being a free agent, the club was able to bring him in even after the closure of the transfer window in August.

Zamalek are seeking to bounce back from a disappointing 2024-25 season where they finished third in the league behind bitter rivals Al Ahly and Pyramids while exiting the CAF Confederation Cup at the quarter-final and appointed Belgian coach Yannick Ferrera to oversee the rebuild.

Ochieng, who captained Kenya at the 2025 Africa U20 Cup of Nations, has risen from the Kenya U18 team, which he played for during the 2023 CECAFA U18 Championships, before turning out for Kenya U20 and earned his maiden Harambee Stars call-up for the World Cup qualifiers against Burundi and Ivory Coast in 2024.
