KRU had conducted elections in September last year but they were nullified by the Sports Dispute Tribunal.

The Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) is set to conduct fresh elections on Friday, March 24 at the Rugby Football Union of East Africa (RFUEA) grounds after the nullification of September 2022 polls.

The Union will conduct an election for the Chairman and four directors and a by-election of the vice chairman, treasurer, secretary, and two directors. This comes after the Sports Dispute Tribunal (SDT) ruling on February 14 that annulled the elections held last year in September.

SDT declared that Vice-Chairman Moses Ndale, Secretary Ian Mugambi, treasurer Joshua Aroni, and directors Oscar Mango and Lesley Mwangale were illegally in office.

The tribunal directed that elections be done within 60 days from the day the ruling was made with the elected team expected to serve for a four-year term.

In a press statement shared by acting secretary Raymond Olendo, the Annual General Meeting will receive and consider the board’s report for 2022 and the adoption of the audited financial reports for the same year.

The statement also stated that auditors for the forthcoming year shall be appointed.

Olendo added that each member must have paid their annual subscription, affiliation insurance and competition fees and failure to comply to that will stop them from participating in the elections.

For a candidate to be nominated to the election, Olendo said they must have served in the executive committee of an affiliated club, or have served as a coach, referee, administrator or medical practitioner for a period of four years.

The candidates are also expected to have a certificate of good conduct, clearance from Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC), good knowledge of both written and oral English and Swahili and one coaching, refereeing or club administration laws of the game and rugby-ready certificate.
