KCB RFC have started stocking up the fires ahead of a likely Kenya Cup final duel with bitter rivals Kabras Sugar following another dominant season by the two.

KCB RFC have warned bitter rivals Kabras Sugar to prepare for fireworks during the Kenya Cup final after both sides sealed their place in the semi-final playoff last weekend.

KCB and Kabras are the only unbeaten sides in the league so far and enhanced their reputation with another win last Saturday, the Bankers beating Kenya Harlequin 45-15 while the Sugar Millers hammered Menengai Oilers 47-3.

That has seen both of them secure a place in the playoff semi-final with two matches to spare and with another final between them looking likely, KCB are keen to avenge their loss in the last two years when they lost the title to Kabras.

“KCB has an attitude of never say die. We always compete and give our best, there is no doubt it,” KCB coach Curtis Olago told Citizen TV on Monday.

“Kabras are also good and if we get to the final, we will square off then. When they were beating us and when we were beating them, the margins were very close which means these are two clubs doing very well in terms of investing in the sport.

“Looking at all the facets of the game, set pieces, transition, dominance. I commend the two managements of the clubs and it is something we want to see in our sport.”

KCB and Kabras have dominated the Kenya Cup in the last eight years, Olago’s men winning five titles over that period, including four straight between 2017 and 2021.

During that time, Kabras were on the losing end until 2022 when they turned the tide in their favour to claim the last two titles at the expense of the Bankers.

This year looks to be the same with the two showing remarkable dominance yet again.

Fans will get a taste of what to expect in the final when the two clash in the regular season finale in Kakamega on March 9 which will come after this weekend’s round of matches that will see Kabras play away to Blak Blad while KCB visit Menengai Oilers.
