KENYA CUP KCB, Kabras extend 100% records as Quins continue resurgence

Varsity sides Monks and Mean Machine claimed massive victories in the relegation dog fight.

Reining Kenya Cup champions Kabras and KCB RFC maintained their 100% records this season with Kenya Harlequins making it six wins in a row after truancing Blak Blad 36-8.

Former champions KCB RFC extended their bonus point victory in every match this season after claiming a 15-62 victory over last season’s finalists Menengai Oilers.

The victory also marked sweet revenge for the Bankers who lost the semi final last season to an impressive Oilers team who went on to lose the final to Kabras.

Gibson Weru’s side are witnessing their wheels fall off at a crucial point in the season as they have now lost three of their last four games and will need victory in their last two games to assure themselves of a playoff spot.

Kabras who are looking for their maiden back to back Kenya Cup titles continued with their winning streak this season after putting Strathmore Leos to the sword with a 47-6 thumping.

The Varsity side are now staring down the barrel as they sit just a point from relegation places having picked up only three victories and will miss the playoffs for the first time in two seasons.

Kenya Harelquins who have fortified their playoffs credentials registered a 36-8 win over Blak Blad who themselves were hoping to secure a place in the semi finals of the Kenya Cup with the defeat now leaving them at the mercy of a miracle.

Mean Machine eased their relegation woes with a hard fought 22-18 win over Mwamba RFC as they had to come from behind to steal a victory over the 1983 Kenya Cup winners.

Mwamba on the other hand have only bagged a single win this year and have suffered a four game losing streak following defeats to KCB, Oilers, Kabras and now Machine.

Catholic Monks got some necessary breathing space between themselves and relegation following a narrow win over Homeboyz RFC who are also enduring a four-game losing streak.

Masinde Muliro are perilously flirting with relegation following their 23-27 loss to Nakuru RFC, leaving them with five points from safety with two games to go before the end of the regular season.

Collated Kenya Cup results:

Catholic Monks 20-19 Homeboyz

Masinde Muliro 23-27 Nakuru RFC

Kenya Harlequin 36-8 Blak Blad

Mean Machine 22-18 Mwamba
