NOC-K president Paul Tergat has urged federations to prioritise the needs of athletes in the buildup to the Paris 2024 Olympics following the recent Kenya Volleyball Federation scandal.

Following the recent Kenya Volleyball Federation’s choice of the technical team to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games that caused much distraught, the National Olympic Committee of Kenya president Paul Tergat has urged federations to ensure they prioritise athletes’ needs.

Tergat noted that the Olympics only come once in four years and federations should work around the clock to make sure athletes have the best experience and come out on top, something that will forever be engraved in their hearts.

He insisted that making the cut to the Olympic team twice is usually something rare, and as athletes gear up for this year’s Olympic Games, he explained that making the first appearance is usually unique and exciting and they should make the most out of it.

“Olympics is once in four years and maybe for us that we are sitting in this room might not be able to understand what it means to that athlete.

“You will be lucky if you make the team twice but usually to make the first appearance in the Olympics is such a unique experience for most of these young athletes that we are leading.

“So, in short, let’s work, deliver and make sure that anything that we do, should be the athlete first. In any execution of our mandate especially to this 2024 Olympic Games,” Tergat insisted.

Meanwhile, as per the release on their formal Facebook page, KVF announced that after a comprehensive meeting, they finally came up with a decision to assign roles fairly.

KVF president Charles Nyaberi was appointed as the team manager with the KCB coach Japheth Munala appointed as the head coach.

The KVF Vice president, Paul Bitok, has been appointed the Assistant Coach with Janet Wanja, a retired player, selected as the trainer.
