World 100m champion Sha’Carri Richardson has landed a nomination for a big award in America but she is up against a stellar cast that includes Simone Biles and Coco Gauff.

American sprint queen Sha’Carri Richardson is among esteemed names who will contest the BET Awards.

In what is her fourth nomination, Richardson has been nominated for the Sportswoman of the Year Award and she is up against a stellar cast that includes gymnast Simone Biles, tennis star Coco Gauff, basketballers Angel Reese and Flau'jae Johnson as well as A’ja Wilson, Claressa Shields, Dawn Staley and JuJu Watkins.

BET Awards are an American award show that was established in 2001 by the Black Entertainment Television network to celebrate black entertainers and other minorities in music, film, sports and philanthropy.

How Did it Go for Richardson at Previous BET Awards?

Sha'Carri Richardson has lost all her previous three BET Awards nominations.

Richardson has been there three times and lost, missing the 2022 award to tennis star Naomi Osaka, before Reese claimed the 2023 and 2024 gongs, and she will hope to be fourth time lucky this year although the likes of Gauff and Biles had better seasons last year.

Richardson won Olympics silver in 100m in Paris but anchored Team USA to 4x100m relay gold and will hope that is enough to persuade the judges that she deserves the award this time.

The 25-year-old is yet to begin her 2025 season but is expected to defend her 100m world title in Tokyo, Japan in September.
