Kenyan fencer Alexandra Ndolo sets her sights on the upcoming African Championships in Nigeria, aiming to build on recent form.

Kenyan fencer Alexandra Ndolo is sharpening her blade for what she hopes will be a golden outing at next month’s Senior African Championships in Nigeria.

The Germany-born athlete, who now represents Kenya on the global fencing stage, is heading to the prestigious tournament with a strong momentum after a series of respectable performances in international competitions.

“Back from Wuxi, the last World Cup of the regular season. A respectable 18th place out of 198 women and some valuable feedback. Now full focus on the African Championship in Nigeria next month and the World Championship in Georgia at the end of July,” said the 38-year-old fencer, who previously clinched a silver medal at the 2022 World Championships in Cairo as per Capital Sport.

Momentum from Global Stage Fuels Confidence Ahead of Nigeria Showdown

Ndolo's recent form offers plenty of promise. She finished 18th out of 198 participants at the Women’s World Cup in Wuxi, China this past weekend, an identical position to her result at the Grand Prix in Bogotá, Colombia held from May 9–11.

Her performance earlier this season came in March at the World Cup in Marrakech, Morocco, where she claimed 12th place out of a competitive field of 253 fencers.

The Nigerian edition will be pivotal not just for her personal ambitions, but also for building momentum ahead of the World Championships in Georgia later in July.

Chasing a Third African Title and Building Toward World Championship Glory

Having already made history with her 2022 World Championship silver — a rare feat for an African fencer — she remains one of the continent’s brightest hopes in the sport.

This time, Nigeria will provide the backdrop for her pursuit of a third African title.

A victory there would cement her status as a dominant force in African fencing and provide a major boost ahead of global competition in Georgia.
