Wout Weghorst reveals what he will never forget about Manchester United in emotional goodbye message

The Dutch striker has revealed two things he will never forget about playing for Man United during his loan spell.

Wout Weghost has waved an emotional goodbye to Manchester United over a month now since his loan spell at the club came to an end.

The Netherlands international, who joined the club in January after a brilliant first half to the season on loan at another club, Besiktas, scored two goals for the club, against Nottingham Forest and Real Betis.

Weghorst was signed as a stopgap signing to replace Cristiano Ronaldo, who left the club in disgrace after an explosive interview with controversial media personality Piers Morgan.

Although he earned praise from the fanbase for his commitment and workrate off the ball, he also attracted criticism for his lack of goals, failing to find the back of the net in 17 league outings for the Red Devils.

“Dear Man United fans, thanks for everything. I really enjoyed every single minute at this club, from winning silverware to scoring my first goal against Betis at Old Trafford,” Weghorst said.

“Dreams came true. Unbelievable pride to wear the badge. Wish you all the best for the future. Man United fans, thank you for everything.”

In his 26 appearances for the club, he managed to help the side win the Carabao Cup, get to the quarterfinals of the Europa League, reach the FA Cup final and finish third in the League.

The 6ft 6in target man started the first 19 games he was available for in all competitions, only to slip down the pecking order with substitute appearances.

It remains to be seen where Weghorst future lies after returning to Burnley, as his return to the club was not so rosy during their first friendly match of preseason, a 2-0 loss to Genk in Belgium.

Weghorst was booed by a section of Burnley’s 250 travelling supporters after he came on as a second-half substitute. A small minority then continued to jeer his every touch. Others, we have to make clear, tried to drown them out with applause.
