West Ham has appointed Julen Lopetegui as their new head coach, succeeding David Moyes and marking a significant step in the club's strategic direction. 

The 57-year-old Spaniard, who signed a two-year deal with an option for a third, will officially begin his tenure on July 1. 

Lopetegui brings a wealth of experience and a distinctive footballing philosophy to the Hammers. Here are five intriguing facts about West Ham's new coach:

Lopetegui's coaching résumé is impressive, spanning over two decades and featuring stints at some of Europe's top clubs and national teams. 

He led Sevilla to UEFA Europa League glory, managed Spain and guided their U21s and U19s to UEFA European Championship success. 

His time at Porto, Real Madrid, and Wolverhampton Wanderers also added to his extensive experience. This rich history of success underscores his ability to thrive in diverse footballing environments.

Known for his clear football philosophy, Lopetegui emphasizes a flexible tactical approach, competitive character, and strong man-management skills.

Lopetegui will be supported by a robust coaching staff, including Pablo Sanz as Assistant Head Coach, Oscar Caro as Head of Performance & Assistant Coach, Juan Vicente Peinado as Head of Analysis & Assistant Coach, Borja De Alba as Fitness Coach, and Edu Rubio as Technical Coach.

 Xavi Valero will continue in his role as men’s first-team goalkeeper coach.
