The former Qatar Stars League champions are negotiating to sign the key Serie A midfielder to strengthen their squad after a poor season.

Qatar Stars League side Al Duhail are reportedly setting the stage for a major squad overhaul by targeting Lazio's attacking midfielder Luis Alberto.

The club, where Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga showcases his skills, is keen on securing Alberto’s services to bolster their lineup following a disappointing season that saw them finish seventh in the league.

Michael Olunga's team is determined to bounce back from their recent underwhelming performance by adding a high-caliber player like Alberto, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 31-year-old Spaniard is seen as a key piece in their strategy to reclaim the league title. Al Duhail’s offer is expected to meet the financial expectations of both the player and Lazio, with a transfer fee that could exceed €10 million.

Despite interest from European clubs like Olympique Marseille and Sevilla, Al Duhail presents a more financially attractive proposition for Alberto.

In the past, Alberto has been on the brink of exiting Lazio multiple times, but this transfer window might see a definitive move given the compelling offer on the table.

Alberto’s potential departure from Lazio comes at a time when his contract with the Italian club is set to run until June 2027.

The terms of his exit, whether by transfer request or early termination of his contract, are still under discussion.

His pivotal role at Lazio has been highlighted by his significant contributions this past season, where he made 33 appearances, started 29 games, and was substituted in four.

In the 2023/2024 Serie A season, Alberto has not only clocked 2,321 minutes on the pitch but has also scored five goals and provided seven assists, making him one of the top assist providers in the league.

His performance included a crucial appearance in Lazio’s recent 1-1 draw against Internazionale on May 19, where he played for 18 minutes.

His discipline on the field, however, was tested as he received seven yellow cards throughout the season.

Since his move to Lazio in August 2016 from Liverpool, where he had a limited stint with only nine league appearances and a single assist, Alberto has grown in stature and influence.

His experience and skill set are exactly what Al Duhail is looking for as they aim to construct a team capable of competing at the highest levels of the Qatar Stars League and beyond.

Al Duhail’s pursuit of Luis Alberto is a clear indication of their ambition to not only improve their squad’s depth but also to make a strong statement in the next season.

With Michael Olunga already a key figure in the team, Alberto's addition could prove to be the catalyst needed for Al Duhail to regain their top form and challenge for the title once again.
