FKF President Hussein Mohammed has vowed to tackle the federation's massive debt.

Football Kenya Federation president Hussein Mohammed has disclosed how he plans to salvage the federation from financial woes.

Speaking during the FKF Congress held at Kasarani Sports View Hotel in Nairobi, Hussein Mohammed noted that FKF has liabilities of over Sh600 million, which have hindered the federation from running its normal errands.

Former Harambee Stars coach Adel Amrouche was wrongfully dismissed between 2013 and 2014, a move that led to a FIFA Players Status Committee that awarded him Sh60 million.

Hussein Mohammed revealed that the first step to making things right is being transparent with everyone, either directly or indirectly involved with the sport.

He added that the federation is holding talks with FIFA to reduce the penalty, noting that they will also be involved with the government to see how it can help.

“The only way we can grow and develop is by telling the truth. We have had significant challenges in physical discipline,” Hussein Mohammed said.

“Immediately, we are in talks with FIFA to reconsider the decisions that have led to those penalties. I’ll be talking to our government, who have been very supportive over the years, on how they can really help us get out of that situation.”

Hussein Mohammed added that the current FKF office inherited a lot of debt from the previous office, noting that they have already established a blueprint of how to make things right.

Mohammed added that they have tried to develop football as much as they can, and despite things not being as seamless as they should be, they will continue delivering for Kenyans.

Hussein Mohammed added that they presented the audits to the public, so that everyone is aware of the financial crisis the federation is in and give them more grace to make things right.

“I think the highlights are that I know we are coming from a very difficult period and a very difficult process because we are restructuring the organisation. It’s our first AGM, we are only five months in office, and it’s important that we stay focused and continue to deliver for Kenyans,” Hussein Mohammed revealed.

“You’ve seen the gains we’ve made over those few months, but we intend to do a little more. I guess what was of significance today is the financial situation of the federation. You have seen the penalty that we have received from FIFA because of previous cases that we were not able to resolve in good time.”

Beyond that, FKF President Hussein Mohammed remains optimistic that through transparency, government support, and ongoing negotiations with FIFA, the federation can overcome its financial crisis and rebuild a stronger future for Kenyan football.
