Homeboyz started in the opening five minutes but striker Felicin Okanda spurned two consecutive chances after going clear on goal.
Vihiga Bullets settled after 10 minutes and were looking to penetrate on the right with Fredrick Ochieng making overlapping runs.
Louis Kizito charges increased their intensity after 20 minutes but were yet to find openings in the final third.
David Chesoli almost handed Bullets the lead in the 34th minute with a free header that slipped on to the upright by Homeboyz shot-stopper Faruk Shikalo.

The newly-appointed gaffer has revealed his worries days after their 4-0 loss to Kenya Police.
Moses Mudavadi almost sensationally broke the deadlock for Patrick Odhiambo’s troops seven minutes before the break with a volley from 25-years out, but it missed narrowly over the corner of the crossbar.
That proved to be the final chance of the half as the sides went into the break scoreless.
The second half started very slowly with the first chance on the goal coming in the 53rd minute when Mosses Shummah unleashed a powerful shot from outside the box, but the Bullets goalkeeper Edigar Epiyayu made a good save to deny him.
Timonah Wanyonyi had a great chance for Bullets three minutes when a long throw-in from the right was flicked onto his path by Daniel Masengo but the former Sofapaka midfielder shot over from six-yards out.
Finally Kakamega Homeboyz managed to reach the Bullets' resolute defence. Hilary Otieno who was one Homeboyz’s danger man in the first half was on hand as he slotted in a fantastic Collins Odhiambo cross.

Buxton Wachie had a chance to pull one back for Vihiga Bullets five minutes to the end of the match but the midfilder’s lob just flew wide of the post.
Kakamega Homeboyz managed to hold on for the win, despite a late charge from Bullets, to make sure that their name is in the top eight of the standings.
