CAF unveils a stunning new Champions League trophy as Sundowns and Pyramids battle for glory, with K’Ogalo fans inspired.

Wow! Woow! That is the best way to describe the spectacle that unfolded in Johannesburg this week as the Confederation of African Football (CAF), alongside partners TotalEnergies, pulled the curtain on a dazzling new CAF Champions League trophy and even in Kenya, fans could not look away.

The reveal took place at CAF’s regional headquarters in South Africa, attended by continental football legends such as Lucas Radebe, Teko Modise, and Siphiwe Tshabalala.

Shimmering with silver and gold elements, the new trophy is designed to reflect the spirit of the competition — fierce yet respectful, modern yet deeply rooted in African heritage.

A golden sphere at the top, adorned with cultural motifs, represents the ultimate dream for any club in the tournament.

It is a dream two clubs — Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa and Egypt’s Pyramids FC — are now just 180 minutes away from living. The 2024/25 CAF Champions League final kicks off this Saturday in Pretoria, with the reverse leg set for June 1 in Cairo.

But the unveiling did more than set the stage for the final. It sparked hope and inspiration for clubs across the continent, including in Kenya.

Supporters of Gor Mahia K’Ogalo — saw the moment as a powerful reminder of the heights African clubs can reach.

And with Gor Mahia’s proud legacy and loyal following, the feeling was clear: “Why not us next?”

“This is more than a trophy – it’s a statement,” said CAF General Secretary Véron Mosengo-Omba in an interview with the CAF website.

“It reflects our ambition to reshape and uplift African football, especially club competitions, to a new global standard.”

Olagoke Aluko, CEO of TotalEnergies Marketing South Africa, echoed the sentiment.

“Being part of this journey with CAF means more than branding. It’s about supporting unity, progress, and the energy of the African game. Hosting the trophy launch in South Africa is also a celebration of that unbreakable football spirit.”

Many fans in Pretoria and Cairo gear up for what promises to be a thrilling two-legged final, across the continent the ripple effect is being felt.

In Nairobi and Kisumu, in Mombasa and Eldoret, fans are not only watching — they are imagining. They are planning. They are believing.

And Gor Mahia fans in Nairobi are dreaming with purpose. The trophy may be heading to either North or Southern Africa this year — but future campaigns could very well see it touch down in East Africa.

As the competition evolves and the standards rise, the message is loud and clear: this new trophy belongs to Africa.

And any club willing to work for it — even one from Nairobi’s green corner — has a real shot.

Because for K’Ogalo, hope is not just a chant — it is a tradition.
