Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga has expressed his excitement at the speed at which his state-of-the-art sports complex is coming up in Homa Bay County.

Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga has taken a giant step towards modernising his foundation academy, MOFA, with the construction of a multi-million sports complex underway.

Olunga runs the academy, which is situated in Othoro, Homabay County, and focuses on sports mentoring, offering opportunities to talented youngsters in the country.

MOFA develops and trains talent, ranging from under 10 to 18 years, and has MOFA FC, a football team run by the academy, which competes in the Football Kenya Federation National Super League, the country’s second-tier.

To take it to the next level, Olunga is building a high-performance centre, which is set to have state-of-the-art facilities that will make it easy to identify and nurture talents while aiding the levels of performance of MOFA FC.

Giving his fans an inside look of what he is cooking in Homa Bay, Olunga explained that the work is now focused on the pitch which is being laid to meet the required standards.

“Our field is almost ready, we are 60 per cent done,” Olunga said in a clip that he has shared on social media.

“Our team over there is fully down, they are drilling water to sustain this place. We will keep you guys posted on what is coming up but for sure, it is going to be [a] top class facility. One of the best in the country,” he added.

The former Al Duhail striker then explained the baby steps being taken to put the pitch in place.

“As you can see on the pitch, we have already put [in] coarse sand. Now we need to produce fine sand so that the seedlings can germinate so that the grass can be more permeable. This is the process that we are doing here,” he went on as he crashed the coarse sand.

Olunga is among Kenyan footballers who are giving back to the community through football and looks determined to ensure the next generation of Kenyan players hone their skills at world class facilities.

The former Tusker FC and Gor Mahia striker is currently looking for a new club after ending his hugely successful four-and-a-half-year stay at Doha-based club Al Duhail with reports indicating that another Qatari side Al Arabi are close to signing him.
