Harambee Stars forward Michael Olunga is close to joining a new club after exiting Al Duhail in May.

Harambee Stars striker Michael Olunga is nearing a move to Al-Arabi Sports Club following the official end of his three-season tenure with Al-Duhail SC.

According to Tembah Football, Informed sources have confirmed that Olunga is close to signing with Al-Arabi on a free transfer after amicably terminating his contract with Al-Duhail.

This move aims to bolster Al-Arabi's attack as they set their sights on competing for titles in the upcoming 2025-2026 season, particularly with continental and domestic competitions on the horizon.

Conversely, attention is turning to a potential indirect swap deal. Italian star Marco Verratti, Al-Arabi's midfielder, has emerged as a strong candidate to join Al-Duhail.

The club seeks to compensate for Olunga's departure and reinforce its ranks with world-class talent, especially after a season of fluctuating form despite qualifying for the preliminary round of the elite Asian Champions League.

Verratti, who joined Al-Arabi in the summer of 2023 from Paris Saint-Germain, has delivered consistent performances in midfield and has been a key figure in the team's lineup.

Al-Duhail's management sees the Italian player as a valuable addition, particularly given the upcoming Asian challenges.

These moves are part of a rebuilding strategy adopted by both clubs. Al-Arabi aims to strengthen its attack with a prolific goalscorer like Olunga, while Al-Duhail is working to create a new balance within the team.

They are adding technical depth with the experience of players like Verratti, who boasts extensive experience in European and international competitions.

The deals are expected to be officially finalized within the next few weeks, with the players being presented upon completion of administrative and medical details. They will then join their respective teams' training camps in preparation for the new season.

With these anticipated changes, Qatari clubs appear determined to bolster their squads with impactful players, reflecting the significant expansion of continental participation and the rising ambitions both domestically and in Asia.
