Bayern Munich have reportedly hired Thomas Tuchel, here is how the German manager can significantly improve the team

Bayern Munich have reportedly fired manager Julian Nagelsmann after an underwhelming season to replace him with Thomas Tuchel.

Tuchel has been unemployed since getting sacked by Chelsea in September 2022 earlier this season but he has now reportedly signed a two-and-half-year deal to replace his compatriot at the Allianz Arena.

And based on his antecedent so far, the Champions League winner could be a massive hit in Bavaria by correcting the wrongs of Nagelsmann and here is how exactly.

Why was Nagelsmann fired?

In order to fully grasp the need for Tuchel, one must first understand why Nagelsmann was fired despite seemingly doing a good job on the surface level.

The 35-year-old has Bayern Munich actively in the running to win a treble, second in the league with just a point behind Borussia Dortmund, a Champions League quarter-final date with Manchester City and another quarter-final appointment with Freiburg in the DFB Pokal.

So why exactly was Nagelsmann fired just two months to the end of his second season with Bayern? Especially after winning the league in his first season, only the club can really answer.

But in the absence of any information on him being sacked for non-football related activities, the next logical justification for this bombshell of a news is simply Thomas Tuchel, the replacement.

Bayern have been good this season and the results are coming despite losing Robert Lewandowski last summer without replacing his guaranteed 40+ goals across all competitions but the thing is, they have not been vintage, they could be better.

And Thomas Tuchel can take them into that next level of dominance which is why this decision sort of makes sense because his availability is most likely why Nagelsmann got sacked rather undeservedly.

Tuchel's record attracted Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich are already a pretty good team and the way they dispatched Paris Saint Germain in the Champions League round of 16 proves that.

So the only way to improve Bayern at the moment is to make them a great team, near-perfect, the best, not just domestically where they have no real rivals but in the whole world and that is what Tuchel specialises in.

The 49-year-old manager by multiple accounts of his character is a control freak and he sets up his teams to mirror that key personality trait.

Nagelsmann's Bayern were good but did not have that distinct air of invicibility that typically surrounds the very best teams, in other words they seemed beatable and that is because they lacked the control.

That one word 'control' is how Tuchel turned Chelsea from a struggling team under Frank Lampard to Champions League winners in under five months.

His words "I will build a team nobody wants to play against" seemed obtuse when he first arrived at Stamford Bridge but he did exactly that with only one major signing in Romelu Lukaku who joined eight months after Tuchel.

Tuchel led Chelsea to three trophies, three domestic cup finals and made the team pretty much unbeatable at some point in less than two years in charge which is what Bayern are hoping he will bring to the Allianz Arena.

Bayern Munich trades chaos for control

Similar to how he did it at Chelsea and Bayern Munich, Tuchel's way of establishing control is simple yet complex, his three at the back formations in its different variations could work a treat at Bayern as well.

Nagelsmann played a lot with something similar this season but his approach to the game is the near opposite of what Tucle represents.

Having come up as one of the youngest and brightest managers in the world, starting his managerial career at 28 years old with Hoffenheim, Nagelsmann built a reputation for his exciting brand of football.

And football analytics have shown that it is damn near impossible to establish control without a degree of pragmatism, except of course your name is Pep Guardiola.

This was the underlying reason Nagelsmann's three at the back did not give him the success it gave Tuchel, it was too chaotic, too open, too free.

Tuchel comes into the fray without the burden of entertainment, his cruel, yet hilarious football twitter alias, 'Tucheliban' exists for a reason and that is because he prioritises making his team impregnable above all else.

That is not to say his teams have been horrible to watch, he is no Sean Dyche as Dortmund, PSG and Chelsea fans can attest to but he will make Bayern almost impossible to beat and that is a huge upgrade.

Once he figures out how to stop conceding and losing by extension, the rest - such as how to score and win games becomes light work because of the sheer amount of attacking talent available to him at Bayern Munich.

As for Nagelsmann, it appears he might have taken the words of Game of Thrones character Lord Baelish a bit too seriously, if chaos was indeed a ladder, Little finger would be alive and Julian would remain in charge of Bayern Munich.

Moving forward, it might benefit Nagelsmann a lot more to find a balance between his gung-ho approach and also maintaining control over a sustained period.
