Harambee Stars winger Boniface Muchiri has hailed Benni McCarthy as 'more than just a coach' following his transformative impact at the helm of the nation's football team since his appointment last March.

Harambee Stars winger Boniface Muchiri has offered glowing praise for South African football legend Benni McCarthy, describing him not just as a coach, but as a father figure and a key reason for the positive atmosphere within the national team camp.

With the Stars aiming to find consistency and belief ahead of some key matches down the road, including the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) this August,  Muchiri says that the mood in the camp has shifted significantly under McCarthy's influence.

“Everybody’s willing to work and give their best for the country,” Muchiri said, speaking candidly about the team’s mindset before they flew out to Morocco on Sunday night.

“Of course, it’s to encourage them to use their strong points, to take risks so they can show their qualities and help the team get positive results.”

The Ulinzi Stars winger, who has been part of Kenya’s recent squads, expressed his unwavering commitment to the national cause if given the opportunity to play against Chad in the two back-to-back friendly matches that Kenya will play in Morocco.

“Given the opportunity, I’ll give 100% for my country and help my teammates and the young ones that are coming up,” he stated.

But beyond tactics and performance, Muchiri believes it is McCarthy’s personal approach to leadership that has truly transformed the squad.

“Benni McCarthy is more than a coach—he’s a father figure, he’s like a brother,” he said. “He gives a lot of freedom to the players to express themselves and to give their best.”

That freedom, Muchiri explained, has created a culture where players feel valued and empowered to perform.

“He knows how to bring the positive vibe in the camp and lift the mood. For me, that is the most important thing to get the best out of a player,” he added.

As Kenya looks to build momentum and climb the ranks in African football, McCarthy’s presence appears to be laying the groundwork for a more confident and cohesive unit—one where players like Muchiri feel both trusted and motivated.

With a renewed sense of purpose and a coach who understands the emotional side of the game, Harambee Stars may just be on the path to something special.
