‘We Want Another One’ - Harambee Starlets Players Ask for More Tough Friendlies After Morocco Humbling

Harambee Starlets players are picking positives from their 5-1 humbling by Morocco and have even asked for more such matches in the coming days.

Harambee Starlets players may have suffered a 5-1 thrashing at the hands of Morocco but they are not afraid of playing another top team again.

Starlets were handed a proper lesson by their North African opponents in Tangier on Wednesday night, when Morocco ran them rugged in a friendly match as they build up towards the CECAFA Women’s Championships as well as the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against The Gambia in October.

While some might chicken out after such a humbling, Beldine Odemba’s charges want even more of the same as they feel the big losses are a great learning curve ahead of their next assignments.

“We have learned a lot from these friendlies. We are still building the team and the new ones have learned a lot. This will help us in the upcoming match,” said Dorcas Shikobe as per FKF media.

“This match has helped us a lot and we want another one because we are here to learn and that is what this sport is all about.”

Her sentiments were echoed by Violet Nanjala, who has urged Football Kenya Federation not to relent in getting such high-profile matches for the benefit of the team.

“Most players here are on a break and so we can take this as a learning moment. From July, there will be WAFCON and since most players will be at the tournament, those of us who will not be participating can use this time to rectify our mistakes,” said Nanjala.

“We are preparing for our qualifiers for next year’s WAFCON and if we correct our mistakes early, then everything will be fine.”

Starlets had also played two friendly matches against Ivory Coast in April, losing both of them 2-0, and will now shift focus to the CECAFA tournament that kicks off in June before the match against The Gambia in October.

Kenya will need to overcome The Gambia in the two-legged tie to seal a ticket to WAFCON for the second time since their debut in 2016.
