Ola Aina believes Marcus Rashford’s explosive pace and direct style would be a game-changer for Nigeria’s Super Eagles, describing the England star as the perfect addition to the squad.

Super Eagles defender Ola Aina has angered Nigerians after he revealed one English star he believes could revolutionise the Nigerian national team, Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford.

Speaking as a guest on ESPN UK’s Ball Knowledge, Aina was asked which England international he would add to the current Super Eagles squad.

After considering Bukayo Saka, Aina ultimately chose Rashford, praising the forward’s explosive qualities.

“Saka or Rashford… I just think Rashford is mad dynamic. He’s quick and direct, like we play kinda direct in the Super Eagles,” he said in the ESPN video.

“So, I think Rashford would be a good addition,” Aina added, reflecting on the impact Rashford’s style could have on the team.

Rashford, currently on loan at Aston Villa from Manchester United, has endured a season of ups and downs but remains one of England’s brightest attacking talents.

In the 2024/25 campaign, he has made 41 appearances across all competitions, netting 11 goals and providing 9 assists.

His pace, directness, and ability to break defensive lines are qualities Aina believes would perfectly complement the Super Eagles’ traditional attacking style.

However, some Nigerians did not agree with the 28-year-old defender as they were left shocked by his decision to go for Rashford.

"Ola is talking crap. Rashford will rot on the bench in the Super Eagles. He won bench Ademola Lookman or Moses Simon. Saka would have been great anyway," one aggrieved fan said.

"Which direct do you people play?" another quizzed, while this fan believes both would work for the Eagles, "Rashford and Saka would definitely bring that quick, direct play the Super Eagles need!"

Aina’s admiration for Rashford highlights a broader conversation about the type of players who can elevate Nigeria’s footballing ambitions.

While Rashford has no Nigerian roots, his flair and approach have often sparked imaginations among African fans, who wonder how he might have thrived in a green and white jersey.
