Real Madrid has officially entered the Xabi Alonso era with the club's announcement of the Spanish coach.

Xabi Alonso has been officially appointed as the new manager of Real Madrid, with the club announcing that the Spanish coach will take the helm.

Xabi Alonso has since signed a contract through the summer of 2028, having previously managed Bayer Leverkusen. Alonso took charge of Bayer Leverkusen in October 2022 and leaves the club in one of the most impressive states, as he managed to break records along the way.

Real Madrid shared an official announcement, noting that Xabi Alonso will be the first team coach for three years as they look to bounce back from a torrid season that saw them miss the Champions League final after exiting in the quarter-final.

Xabi Alonso is a legend of the Spanish national team, with whom he won one World Cup (2010) and two European Championships (2008 and 2012) in 113 appearances.

Alonso began his coaching career in Real Madrid's youth academy, leading the Infantil A team during the 2018-2019 season, winning the league title and the Torneo de Campeones.

"Real Madrid C.F. announces that Xabi Alonso will be the first-team coach for the next three seasons, from June 1, 2025, to June 30, 2028. Xabi Alonso is one of the greatest legends of Real Madrid and world football," Real Madrid said in a statement.

"He wore our shirt in 236 official matches between 2009 and 2014. During this period, he won six titles: the tenth Champions League in Lisbon, one European Super Cup, one Spanish League title, two Spanish Cups, and one Spanish Super Cup."

He now returns to Real Madrid as one of the top coaches in the world, having made history at Bayer Leverkusen, where he won the league title, the cup, and the German Super Cup in three seasons.

On Monday, May 26, Xabi Alonso will be officially presented as the new Real Madrid manager at an event held at Ciudad Real Madrid.

Before he is officially presented, Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez will welcome Xabi Alonso for the formal signing of the contract that binds him to the club for the next three seasons. Following the presentation, Alonso will give a press conference in the press room at Ciudad Real Madrid.
