Former England player who rejected the chance to represent the Nigerian national team now wants to replace Eric Chelle.

Former England striker John Fashanu has expressed his interest in becoming the next coach of the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles.

Speaking to Ogun State based journalist Bayo Adegboyega, the former Aston Villa striker stated that he believes he has the necessary skills to lead the team to success, provided he has the right support staff.

"I want to be the manager of the Eagles, that's one of the hardest jobs in this country," Fashanu said.

He continued, "But I'm saying I can do it and I can do it with the right people, the people who understand the game of football."

He emphasised the importance of assembling a team of players with the right mentality and character.

"It's about getting players who can play in different countries, players who want to play for the country."

Despite having no prior coaching experience, Fashanu is confident in his ability to lead the Super Eagles.

The 62-year-old former striker, who played for clubs like Aston Villa, Norwich, and Millwall, retired from professional football in 1995.

Fashanu, who was born in Huddersfield to a Nigerian father and British mother, has previously expressed regret over not playing for Nigeria.

He represented England at full international level, making two appearances, but believes his experience and heritage make him a suitable candidate for the Super Eagles coaching job.
