One killed, others injured in Sierra Leone football team bus crash

Port Authority FC was hit with a tragedy after their team bus was involved in an accident when returning from a football game.

Players and officials of Sierra Leonean top-flight football club, Port Authority FC are reeling from the aftermath of a devastating road accident on Tuesday night. 

The team was en route to Kenema for a crucial match against Kahunla Rangers when tragedy struck, leaving several members in critical condition.

The accident, which occurred at Konta Line, has claimed the life of the former Sierra Leone international and team coach, Lamin Bangura. 

Despite the best efforts of medical personnel at Masiaka Hospital, Bangura succumbed to his injuries, leaving behind a void in Sierra Leonean football.

In a statement issued by the Sierra Leone Premier League Board, deep regret and condolences were expressed.

 "While details of the incident are still emerging, it has been confirmed that there were injuries sustained by individuals involved in the accident. Our immediate priority is the well-being and recovery of those affected by this unfortunate event," the statement reads.

The postponement of the match between Kahunla Rangers FC and Ports Authority FC was announced by the League Board, citing the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.

Lamin Bangura, a highly revered figure in Sierra Leonean football, leaves behind a legacy that transcends the sport.

 Having represented the national team, the Leone Stars, Bangura's leadership guided Diamond Stars to victory in the 2013 Sierra Leone Premier League, earning him respect and admiration throughout the country.
