Kakamega Homeboyz chairman Cleophas Shimanyula has spoken about the contract situation of experienced defender Robinson Kamura whose deal has expired

Kakamega Homeboyz chairman Cleophas Shimanyula says the club is ready to move on without defender Robinson Kamura.

The experienced defender has left the club following the expiry of his contract and will be available as a free agent in the midseason transfer window.

Kamura joined Homeboyz on a one-year deal back in 2022 and was a key member of Patrick Odhiambo’s team as they won the FKF Cup which earned them a place in the CAF Confederations Cup.

However, efforts to agree fresh terms with the former AFC Leopards captain appear to have been unsuccessful, leading to his departure.

“I have not seen him. I do not know where he is,” Shimanyula said of the defender’s situation.

“The coach will decide if he needs him or not. There are many players in Kenya whom we can sign. It is up to the coach to make that decision.”

While confirming that the defender has left the club, head coach Patrick Odhiambo said he would have loved to keep him if a new deal was agreed.

“There has not been an agreement regarding a new deal for him,” said Odhiambo. “I would like to keep him because he is a good player but there must be an agreement with the club.”

“He has not been training with us until his situation is resolved. If that happens, then he will have his mind and body in the field,” he added.

Kamura has not been featuring in recent matches for Homeboyz due to an injury with Odhiambo partnering Brian Eshihanda and Portipher Odhiambo at the heart of his team’s defence.

It appears that is how it will continue until at least the midseason window although Homeboyz also have John Otieno and George Odiwuor as options to call upon in defence.

Kamura left Leopards in 2021 in acrimonious fashion after falling out of favour with former head coach Patrick Aussems who stripped him of the captaincy.

He would then join KCB for one season before he left for Homeboyz where he enjoyed a successful 2022-23 campaign.

Kamura was reported to have attracted interest from Tanzanian clubs in the offseason but opted to stay at Homeboyz to feature in the Confederation Cup where Abana Abeingo were knocked out at the first preliminary round by Al Hilal Benghazi of Libya following a 4-1 aggregate loss.
