Jimmy Mbugua, who has shone in his two outings at right-back this season, is optimistic that Tusker will make amends given their winning experience in the last three seasons.

Tusker defender Jimmy Mbugua is bullish that the club has everything it takes to win the FKFPL title for the third time in the last four seasons.

The brewers fell short last season, missing out on both the league and cup double at the very last hurdle.

The Ruaraka-based outfit missed out on the title by just one point to eventual champions Gor Mahia, before losing 1-0 to Kakamega Homeboyz six days later, leaving the mood in the camp gloomy.

Mbugua, who has shone in his two outings at right-back so far this season stepping in for the injured Daniel Sakari, is optimistic that the side will make amends given their winning experience in the last three seasons.

“We have already taken part in CAF competitions before and we have won the league title back-to-back before,” Mbugua told Pulse Sports.

“We have everything in place and the conditions are perfect for us. It is up to us as players to step up. I have even set aside a place at home where I will put my league-winning medal this season, so we have all it takes.”

The 12-time league champions won the title in 2021 before defending it successfully again in 2022, but that last title was nullified as the season was declared null and void after FIFA lifted the ban later that year.

Tusker will be out to avenge their loss to Kakamega Homeboyz in The Football Kenya Federation Cup final when the two teams clash at Bukhungu Stadium on Saturday.

Mbugua was named in the team of the week for the first league game of the season for his impressive performance marking Bandari’s Hassan Abdallah away at the Mbaraki Grounds a fortnight ago.

He followed it up with another impressive performance against Kariobangi Sharks, although the Ruaraka-based outfight were confined to a 1-1 draw, halting their desire to get all three points on the day.

Mbugua had struggled with injuries last season, but has returned to full fitness and is now itching to help the team achieve its goals this season.
