The former AFC Leopards goalkeeper looked assured as Zambian giants Zesco soared to the top of the league table.

Harambee Stars goalkeeper Ian Otieno looked assured in goal as Zambian giants Zesco United had enough about them to overcome Nkana to move top of the MTN League on Sunday afternoon.

Although he did concede a goal from the penalty early on, he stood up to be counted as he often has to help his side to secure all the three points and affirm themselves completely in the title race.

ZESCO had to come from behind after struggling Nkana took the lead inside six minutes through a Harrison Chisala penalty.

But after Abraham Siankombo equalised, Enock Sakala scored a brace to take the home side to the victory.

Nkala were not helped by a late second booking for Oliver Lumbiya that saw him sent-off three minutes from the end.

Otieno's star has been on the rise ever since he joined Zambian champions Zesco United three seasons ago.

He has been a mainstay between the sticks for Zesco since joining the Ndola giants in January 2020 from league rivals Red Arrows.

The experienced goalkeeper, who previously played for Posta Rangers and AFC Leopards, is eager to make his mark as the number one choice for Harambee Stars.

24 hours earlier, former Gor Mahia defender Dennis Ng’ang’a was an unused substitute as Zanaco beat Kabwe Warrios 1-0.

A penalty from Charles Zulu on the half-hour mark gave ZANACO a 1-0 victory at early-season pacesetters Kabwe Warriors, who have now lost three games in a row, but remain in fifth.
