Gor Mahia have ended speculation about the future of top striker Benson Omala after confirming that he is set to leave the club for a six-month loan deal in Algeria

FKF Premier League leaders Gor Mahia have finally confirmed the departure of striker Benson Omala to Algerian club JS Saoura.

Omala is set to complete a sixth-month loan move to the North African side following an agreement between Gor Mahia and JS Saoura and K’Ogalo have now given their blessings to the transfer.

“We are happy to announce that our talisman Benson Omala has moved to JS Saoura in Algeria on loan for the rest of the season,” Gor Mahia said through a statement posted on social media.

“The two clubs have signed a loan agreement with the possibility of a permanent move if the player impresses at JS Saoura during the loan period.

“As the Executive Committee of Gor Mahia, we wish Omala a good outing there being aware of his immense ability in the field of play and we remain optimistic that these two clubs will foster a good rapport now and in the future.”

Gor Mahia will reportedly pocket over $20,000 (Ksh3.2 million) for the loan deal with the player guaranteed major perks.

The confirmation ends the speculation over Omala’s future after he was heavily linked to another Algerian club, USM Alger last month.

USM Alger had reportedly tabled a $20,000 (Ksh3.2 million) monthly salary as well as a signing-on fee of $100,000 (Ksh16.4 million) with a view to signing him permanently on a two-and-a-half year contract and intended to pay Gor Mahia $50,000 (Ksh8.2 million) to lure him to Algeria.

However, that deal did not materialise after USM Alger failed to make a formal approach to Gor Mahia but JS Saoura have now shown great intent, albeit on a short-term deal, and there is hope that both parties will complete the formalities in time.

“The player and the Gor Mahia Club undertake to suspend the employment contract binding them for the duration of the loan. JS Saoura will make payment of the loan compensation only after receipt of the TMS, and the player's physical and medical visits,” reads part of the agreement between the two clubs.

It is the second stint abroad on loan for Omala after a brief spell at Swedish club FC Linkoping City in 2021.

JS Saoura are currently placed ninth in the Algerian top flight with 22 points, having won six, drawn four, and lost five of their 15 matches so far.
