Harambee Starlets suffered a humbling defeat to hosts Morocco in a behind-closed-doors friendly in Tangier.

The Kenya women’s national football team, Harambee Starlets, endured a tough outing on Wednesday evening as they were comprehensively beaten 5-1 by Morocco in an international friendly match held at the Village Sportif de Tanger Stadium in Tangier.

Played behind closed doors with no live broadcast, the match was part of both teams’ preparations ahead of upcoming regional and international tournaments.

The hosts struck early, capitalizing on a slow start by the Starlets to take a 1-0 lead.

However, Kenya responded positively and managed to pull level before halftime through a well-taken goal by forward Fasila Adhiambo, making it 1-1 at the break.

Despite showing promise in the first half, the Starlets were unable to contain a resurgent Moroccan side after the restart.

The hosts upped the tempo and punished defensive lapses, netting four unanswered goals in a dominant second-half performance to seal a 5-1 victory.

Fasila Adhiambo’s goal was one of the few highlights for Kenya on a night where the gulf in experience and execution between the two sides became evident.

With the friendly now behind them, Harambee Starlets will turn their attention to the CECAFA Women’s Championship, which kicks off on June 12.

The team will be looking to regroup and sharpen their form ahead of the tournament, where they aim to make a strong impression.

Head coach Beldine Odemba is expected to analyze the performance and make adjustments as the team seeks to bounce back and represent Kenya with pride in the upcoming competition.
