FKFPL Gor Mahia keen to show Ulinzi the real 'sirkal', Mathare seek relegation play-off place with as Tusker face stern Wazito test

Gor Mahia will be playing Ulinzi Stars while Tusker face a relegation-battling Wazito at the dreaded Muhoroni Stadium. Collins Omondi Korea will also be seeking his first win as Mathare United boss.

As the race for the 2022/23 FKF Premier League title runs down to the wire, Gor Mahia will be facing an Ulinzi Stars side with nothing left to play for as they hope to get three points that will put them back at the summit of the table, given winning the league would be their only chance of qualifying for CAF Club competition next season.

K'ogalo have failed to win each of their last two games. First, it was a home loss to sworn rivals AFC Leopards for the first time in seven years in the Mashemeji Derby. The second game was an entertaining 0-0 draw with Tusker at Nyayo National Stadium last Sunday.

However, they will be hoping to beat the Soldiers who look unsettled at the moment with talks swirling around about coach Bernard Mwalala’s future. The former Kakamega Homeboyz and Bandari tactician was noticeably absent from the touchline during their 0-0 draw with Kenya Police.

Benson Omala has failed to find the back of the net for a few games now, but will be hoping to break his long awaited duck of hitting 26 goals this season. Goalkeeper Gad Mathews will be hoping to add another clean sheet to his collection to stand a chance of winning the Golden Glove.

Gor Mahia have found the back of the net 45 times and conceded just 18 goals this season. They have a healthier goal difference of 27 points compared to Tusker’s 19.

In Kakamega, Mathare United will be hoping to win their first match under Collins Omondi Korea as they seek to get 16th place, which would put them in the relegation playoff place.

The Slum Boys have been playing well under his stewardship, particularly in their last two games against Kenya Police and KCB, but were profligate and it ended up costing them.

They will however be facing a stern test as Kakamega Homeboyz will be seeking their first league win in four games, having lost each of their last three league games. They however secured a place in the final of the FKF Cup against Tusker scheduled for next month.

Mathare have amassed 22 points from 31 games, winning seven, drawing just once and losing the rest of their matches. They have conceded 60 goals, which is the worst defensive record in the division.

They will be hoping to correct the mistakes by keeping a clean sheet against a team that has struggled to score recently.

Tusker will be hoping to avoid the nerves of playing at the intimidating Muhoroni Stadium as they face Wazito in Muhoroni (Read full story in this link).

In other matches, KCB will play Bidco, AFC Leopards will face Vihiga Bullets while Kenya Police play Posta Rangers. The three matches will be more or less pride games for all sides, as they all have nothing left to play for this season.
